Divisions
Engineering
The Engineering division designs, reviews, and manages construction projects that keep San Rafael’s infrastructure working. They handle street improvements, storm drains, bridges, and flood control systems. They also review private development plans to make sure new projects meet city standards and protect public safety.
Traffic
The Traffic division keeps people moving safely and efficiently. They manage traffic signals, signs, and pavement markings, study traffic patterns, and respond to community requests about speeding or parking. Their goal is to make it safe for everyone—drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians—to get where they need to go.
Streets
The Streets division repairs and maintains the city’s roads, sidewalks, storm drains, and streetlights. They fill potholes, sweep streets, clear debris, and respond to flooding or emergency issues that affect public safety. Their work keeps San Rafael’s streets safe, clean, and accessible year-round.
Parks
The Parks division takes care of San Rafael’s public parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and landscaped areas. They maintain trees, lawns, and open spaces so residents and visitors can enjoy clean, beautiful places to play, relax, and connect with nature.
Facilities
The Facilities division manages and maintains city buildings, from libraries to fire stations. They handle repairs, upgrades, and energy efficiency projects to keep buildings safe, comfortable, and working well for staff and the public.
Vehicle maintenance
The Vehicle maintenance division services and repairs the city’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, including police cars, fire trucks, and public works vehicles. They make sure every vehicle is reliable, safe, and ready to serve the community.
