Appeal a parking ticket

If you believe your parking ticket is a mistake, you can appeal it.

Need to know

  • Request your appeal within:
    • 35 days of the ticket issue date, or
    • 14 days of the courtesy notice date
  • No fee to appeal
  • Late fees are paused while we review your appeal
  • You cannot appeal if you have already paid the ticket
  • Takes up to 6 weeks for a decision

Before you start

You’ll need:

  • Your citation (ticket) number, license plate number, or courtesy notice number
  • Any documents that support your case, like photos, copies of permits, or receipts

If you received a ticket for parking in a disabled parking spot and forgot to display your placard, you can request a dismissal.

Steps

1. Find your ticket online

Go to the online citation processing center. Enter your number, license plate number, or courtesy notice number.

2. Submit your appeal

Describe why you believe the ticket was wrongly issued. Attach any supporting documents or photos. Select submit when you're done.

What's next

We will send our decision by mail up to 6 weeks after we receive your appeal. If you haven’t received a decision within 6 weeks, call (415) 458-5333.

If you do not agree with our decision, you can request a hearing to review.
