There are different types of encroachment permits based on your project needs. Requirements and costs vary.
Minor temporary
Small projects with a specific and limited period of time.
Examples
- Construction and scaffolding
- Sidewalk or driveway repair
- Sewer or water laterals
- Tree trimming
- Dumpster or moving PODs
Cost
- Dumpster, moving PODs: $50
- Sidewalk, curb, gutter: no fee (permit still required)
For others, permit fee is based on the value of the work being done:

Minor continuing
Small in size, scale, or use but requires an indefinite period of time.
Examples
- Flat or low level landscaping
- Bike racks
- Newspaper racks
- Signs/architectural features extending more than 4 feet into the right-of-way

Major work that will continue for an indefinite period of time.
Examples
- Fences or walls higher than 3 feet above natural grade
- Abutments for driveways and stairs
- Groundwater monitoring wells
