Encroachment permit types and cost

There are different types of encroachment permits based on your project needs. Requirements and costs vary.

Minor temporary

Small projects with a specific and limited period of time.

Examples

  • Construction and scaffolding
  • Sidewalk or driveway repair
  • Sewer or water laterals
  • Tree trimming
  • Dumpster or moving PODs

Cost

  • Dumpster, moving PODs: $50
  • Sidewalk, curb, gutter: no fee (permit still required)

For others, permit fee is based on the value of the work being done:

Minor continuing

Small in size, scale, or use but requires an indefinite period of time.

Examples

  • Flat or low level landscaping
  • Bike racks
  • Newspaper racks
  • Signs/architectural features extending more than 4 feet into the right-of-way

Cost

Major work that will continue for an indefinite period of time.

Examples

  • Fences or walls higher than 3 feet above natural grade
  • Abutments for driveways and stairs
  • Groundwater monitoring wells
