Parking ticket penalties

You need to pay or appeal your ticket within 35 days to avoid late fee penalties.

If you haven't paid or appealed after 21 days, we send a courtesy notice to the car's registered owner on file with the DMV. This gives them 14 days to pay without more penalties. The notice explains the penalty structure for the particular violation if payment is not received by the deadline.

Deadlines and penalty amounts

Deadline Amount
Within 35 days Original fine, no penalties
Day 36 Double the original fine up to a maximum of $150
Day 51 $40
Day 54 $10

After 54 days of no payment

After 54 days, we will put the vehicle registration on hold with the DMV until citation is paid in full. At that point, you can make your payment to us, or at the DMV.

Unpaid tickets plus additional penalties will be reported to the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) for collection after 301 days. If the FTB is unable to collect it, debt will be reported to a third-party collection agency.
