Request a temporary no parking zone
If you need to use street parking for construction work, moving, or special events, get signs or meter bags to block the area temporarily.
Need to know
- Cost
- Unmetered spaces:
- $50 for the first sign
- $4 for each additional sign
- Metered spaces:
- $66 for the first meter for the first day only
- $16 for each additional meter per day
- Unmetered spaces:
- Request at least 1 week before you need the space
- Signs only valid for dates you request
- Cannot be used for personal parking
Before you start
Check if you need an encroachment permit and apply if you need one.
If you need a metered space, provide the meter number in your request. These are on the white label on the street side of the meter.
Restrictions
For these areas, all vehicles or equipment must be removed by the specified times:
4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday tow away
- Lincoln Ave (between 800 block & 1400 block)
- Irwin St (East side between 900 block & 1100 block)
- Mission Ave (500 block Westbound & 800 block Eastbound)
Farmers Market area, 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, tow away (April through September)
- 4th St (between B St & Lincoln)
- Some additional metered areas on Cijos St, Lootens Ave & A St

We will review your request and contact you if we have any questions.
Unmetered spaces
We will let you know when the No Parking signs are ready to be picked up. You are responsible for posting them.
Post the signs at least 72 hours before you’ll need the spaces. Once your signs are posted, call the police department at (415) 485-3000.
Metered spaces
We will put "No parking" meter bags over the meters 1 day before the date you need them. When the time period is over, we will remove them.
Extensions
If you need the spaces for longer, call us as soon as possible.
