Speeds and safety for Assembly Bill 43

This new state law gives cities more control when setting speed limits in business and residential areas.

Purpose

Under this law, cities can lower speed limits based on:

  • Traffic safety
  • Land use
  • Number of people walking or biking
  • Presence of vulnerable groups, such as children, seniors, people with disabilities, and those experiencing homelessness

We're developing a strategy for new speed limits in San Rafael.
